The small historical town of Laupen provides the visitor with many interesting views of the past. In the castle and in the narrow streets of the old town, a large number of architectural and cultural treasures are waiting to be discovered. Laupen's excellent state of preservation makes the town and its surroundings an ideal area for excursions. It can be reached in half an hour from either Berne, Fribourg or Murten. The Bear Hotel is an important landmark in Laupen. It was first mentioned in the annals of the town in 1704, and for more than a century it has been in the possession of the Schmid family.
